A Huge Wealth of Talent, the Summer Art Exhibition 2016

The Summer Exhibition is a fixture in the social calendar, like Wimbledon and strawberries and it did not disappoint. If you were fortunate enough to have visited the Art & Design department ‘Summer Exhibition 2016’ you will have seen an outstanding array of talent on display. The exhibition boasted 4 full rooms of works by students from year 7 to 13. The works were also extremely diverse with the use of mediums ranging from cassette tapes and old phones to pencil and paint, and everything in between. A special mention must go to the GCSE and A Level students who excelled, producing some outstanding work, with something to suit every taste.

With Art & Design often being an area where students work independently through their personal creative journey, it was a great opportunity to see hours and hours of dedication and hard work come to fruition. Those who attended will be in no doubt that Richard Challoner has a huge wealth of artistic talent and some exciting potential to develop in the coming years. The votes are in! On the evening guests were asked to nominate their favourite artists and photographers. It was a close run vote, however Alex Watson, of Year 13, came out on top with Matteo Viani and Rosie Haughey coming 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The department also received some fantastic news from the Royal Society of British Artists. The school has had 5 pupils selected to be exhibited in the National Students’ Art Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London. What an achievement, and a massive congratulations must go to those pupils selected.

It has been a fantastic end to a busy, but very successful year within the department.
