Mayor’s Award For Outstanding Work

Huge congratulations go to Daniel Almeida from Richard Challoner School and Raphaël Maurin from Cardinal Vaughan School, who were awarded the prestigious Mayor’s Community Award on 14th April 2021.

The Sixth Form students were nominated by St Joseph’s RC Church in New Malden for their "outstanding", ongoing work in St Joseph's, but particularly during the lockdown period. Both students showed exceptional maturity, proactivity and motivation, and managed the set-up of the church's Live-streaming as well as the formal booking system for the different services. This they had to learn from scratch and developed their skills to provide an invaluable and much-needed provision to the church community.

In addition to this, Daniel and Raphaël gave up a significant amount of their time to also support the Parish office, represent the youth on the Parish Pastoral Council, provide Catechesis for the children, organise the Music (live and recorded), and most aspects of the safe re-opening of St Joseph's.

They attended a short private ceremony in the grounds of the Guildhall in Kingston upon Thames to receive this Award from Her Worshipful The Mayor Councillor Margaret Thompson.

Daniel and Raphaël are enthusiastic, selfless and inspirational role models. Their commendable work ethic is testament to this Award being very richly deserved.
