Ron Humphrey
Please pray for the repose of the soul of retired teacher Ron Humphrey who sadly lost his battle with cancer on Monday 20th May 2013. Ron (right) is pictured above with Frank Gosling (R.I.P) who was the first deputy Headmaster of Richard Challoner School.
Ron joined the school in 1966 to pioneer vocational training courses in motor-engineering, boat-building and home maintenance. Together with Mr D’Agostino, Mr Humphrey was one of the founders of the school ski trip. He was Head of Craft, Design and Technology in the school until his retirement in 1988.
The respect and admiration felt by many former students for Ron is summed up well by Charlie Edgeler, who writes:
I was at Richard Challoner 1964 -70 during Mr Humphrey’s tenure and remember him well as being a very kind and caring teacher and a man of faith.
We had the old A, B and C streams – and somewhere in there was "Motor Mechanics" or "Newson" that did things a bit more interesting like take an engine to bits, tend a vegetable garden at the side of the main block and even do a bit of driving instruction in the playground after school.
I sat in the middle "B" stream looking out the window at the other lads – who didn’t necessarily have great academic thirst – but boy I often wished I could do what they were doing.
Mr H had great patience and I think it was his forte and great gift to give those lads immense encouragement and hugely useful practical skills.
A really good man.
May he rest in the love and peace of Jesus Christ.

Section 48 Report on Religious Education
I am delighted to bring you the school’s Section 48 report on Religious Education at Richard Challoner School.
The report was released today (30th April 2013).
I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to students, staff , parents and governors who have all helped the school to achieve this excellent report in which all key areas are graded 1 or outstanding.
A school being graded 1 in all areas in any inspection report is rare and in particular a boys’ school and I believe it reflects the unique nature of our highly successful school community.
Please click here to access the report, and I encourage you to take time to read the report over the next few days.
T Cahill
Headmaster
