Welcome from the Headmaster
Richard Challoner is a school that is true to its Catholic ethos and seeks to follow the example of Jesus Christ. Challoner is a truly inclusive community that endeavours to develop every pupil so that they fulfil their God-given potential.
Allied to a commitment to seek academic excellence and outstanding results, is a commitment to wider-curricular events through our extensive House programme, as well as a whole school programme of productions, concerts, exhibitions and inter-school sports fixtures.
There is a friendly atmosphere of shared endeavour and good humour that exists between the students and the staff. These relationships are based on an ethos of mutual respect and often developed on one of the numerous trips that take place each year.

Ethos & Values
At Richard Challoner we want to ensure that all members of our Challoner family feel like they belong and enjoy living, learning and sharing in a Catholic community driven by the teachings of Bishop Challoner who encourages us to do ordinary things extraordinarily well.
In our Catholic school, the teachings of Christ permeate all aspects of school life. We seek to offer a high standard of education for all, care to the individual and good relations between staff, students and parents. Each person is recognised as a child of God, an individual who is encouraged to develop his/her God-given talents, a sense of his/her own worth and to reach his/her full potential. In partnership with the wider community, we aim to prepare each student to make full use of the opportunities available so that all are able to contribute to society.
Catholic Life

Catholic Life
Christ taught us to love, respect, be tolerant and forgive. These values underpin all that we do. We encourage an awareness of the living presence of our Lord in worship, prayer and by fostering spiritual development.
We start each day with morning prayers led by our students and guided by our two lay chaplains. We have a programme of worship from weekly Mass on Friday mornings to opportunities to pray and say the rosary in our school chapel.
Each year we take our whole school community up to St George’s cathedral to celebrate Holy Mass for Challoner Day where we give thanks for the life and inspiration of Bishop Challoner.
Challoner Challenge

Challoner Challenge
The Challoner challenge supports the wider curriculum and encourages students to get involved in school life. They collect points by attending wider curriculum events or by being of service to our school community. These points lead to a range of rewards starting with the bronze award and moving through silver, gold and beyond.
We believe that every student has different talents and skills and the Challoner Challenge encourages them to support their House and step outside their comfort zone by getting involved in as many wider curriculum activities as possible.

Wider Curriculum
At Richard Challoner we believe in the development of the whole person and believe the wider curriculum is as crucial to the development of our students as the academic curriculum.
Much of the wider curriculum takes place through inter and intra school sports including matches against other schools on Saturday mornings. We have a thriving music department that organises a plethora of opportunities for students to perform across the school year.
We put on a number of productions across the school year including an annual musical and a celebration of Shakespeare at the Garrick.
Our Art department also encourages students to be creative through the annual House Art competition and the annual Art exhibition.
Finally, there are a range of clubs from chess to participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
At Challoner, we want all our students to get involved!

Academic Excellence
Challoner has consistently been recognised as one of the top performing comprehensive boys’ schools in the country. Consistently being placed in the top 10% of schools for student progress and attainment at GCSE.
We believe in a wide and balanced curriculum that enables all students to try different aspects of academic life from Food & Nutrition to Drama to all students studying a Modern Foreign language.
Our classrooms are respectful places where excellent relationships exist between the students and the staff and allow for innovative pedagogy and deep learning. All of our students use personal iPads to help them develop and engage with their learning and we put a big emphasis on developing all of our staff to be the best they can be and drive our students to achieve academic success.
