Vacancy - 1:1 Learning Support Assistant

We are seeking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to join our dynamic and successful department. The successful candidate will be based in our Xavier Centre, a specialist unit within the main Richard Challoner School, catering for 16-19-year-old students with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD).

Main Role:

To provide 1:1 support with moderate learning difficulties, autism and speech and language difficulties.

Main Tasks:

  • To work closely with learning support staff/teaching staff to assist in the inclusion and teaching of a student with special educational needs within our moderate learning disability unit known as the Xavier Centre.
  • To support a young person in a 1:1 and/or classroom setting, which may involve differentiating work to meet the needs of the student.
  • To deliver individual sessions concentrating on pre-teaching and consolidation of learning, tailored to the needs of the student.
  • To work in conjunction with other outside professionals, such as SLT and OT and assist with the delivery of programs set by such professionals.
  • To develop a nurturing and caring relationship with the student which enables them to feel safe and secure in attending school and to provide emotional support where necessary.
  • To have a sense of humour, patience and flexibility and the ability to work well within a small team.
  • To have excellent communication skills and be able to work with your own initiative.
