Richard Challoner School

Sixth Form Bursary

For some learners, it can be difficult to meet the costs of learning – either day to day expenses such as lunches and travel, or for specific items of equipment that are essential for your course.

If you think that financial difficulty might prevent you from participating in, or even continuing, your course, our school might be able to help you through its 16-19 Bursary Fund. This Fund has been set up by the government to support young people on post-16 learning programmes and funding has been allocated to schools and colleges to administer to learners directly. We can pay bursaries to learners, who are eligible, either on an on-going basis to enable you to meet day to day expenses, or on a one-off basis, such as paying towards school trips.

It is the responsibility of the school to ensure that the funding reaches the learners who need it most. We do have to administer the Fund against certain criteria. If you (the student) are currently in care or a care leaver, or if you (the student) are in receipt of Income Support, you could be eligible for a full bursary. Students are also eligible for the full bursary if they are in receipt of Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance.

Other students, who are not in the categories above, will still be able to apply for some financial help.

Students will be asked to provide information about their family’s income, but this is kept entirely confidential.
