The school maintains strong links with Kingston LA, housing two separate provisions for Special Educational Needs.
Richard Challoner School has educated and supported a number of boys on the Autistic Spectrum over the last 10 years. We have almost 75 students on the autistic spectrum currently on roll. The majority of these students have a Statement of Special Educational Need. Students on the Autistic Spectrum are supported in lessons by a team of highly-skilled and dedicated Learning Support Staff. Many of these students have access to a weekly social skills session as well as our main Learning Support Centre.
Our Newman Centre provision for students with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) opened in September 2011. The school admits up to 3 students a year at secondary transfer age into the resourced provision. Decisions on admissions and applications to the unit are made solely between the school and Kingston LA.
